About paver base products
Paver base panels and base preparation products. Base panels replace several inches of compacted gravel with a rigid interlocking panel, which cuts excavation depth dramatically and matters most where you cannot dig deep, such as over an existing slab, on a rooftop deck or against a doorway threshold.

Why Base Panels
- Less excavation. A panel system replaces a large part of the gravel base
- Works over existing concrete without adding much height
- Faster installs, no compacting lifts of gravel
- Lower weight, which matters on decks and rooftops
Setting Beds and Binders
For pavers set on a rigid slab rather than a flexible gravel base, you need a bonding mortar or setting bed binder rather than bedding sand. These are trass and polymer modified products designed to bond stone to concrete and to survive freeze and thaw without letting go.
Getting the Base Right
- Base failure shows up as sunken or rocking pavers, and it cannot be fixed from the top
- Compaction matters more than base depth, gravel must go in lifts
- Slope for drainage before anything else, water under pavers is the real enemy
- Pair with stabilization fabric on soft ground
- Finish with edge restraint, without it the field spreads
