Techniseal Paver Restorer: Remove Polymeric Haze and Cut Residue

Techniseal Paver Restorer hardscape cleaner, 1 gallon jug

Polymeric Sand Store Hardscape Experts |

Techniseal Paver Restorer is an eco friendly hardscape cleaner aimed at two problems a general purpose cleaner struggles with: the polymeric haze left behind after a jointing sand install, and the grey film left around paver and slab cuts. It also dislodges efflorescence and ground in dirt, brightens the paver color and prepares the surface for sealing. It is for homeowners and contractors cleaning up a new install that did not finish clean, or bringing a dull older patio or driveway back before sealing.

This guide covers what Paver Restorer removes, the surfaces Techniseal lists, where it is the wrong product, the cleaning sequence, and how to judge quantity. It uses the Techniseal product information on our Paver Restorer product page, and points you to the Techniseal technical data sheet for dilution and dwell time, which that page does not list.

Quick answer

  • Paver Restorer is a Techniseal hardscape cleaner in a 1 gallon jug that removes polymeric haze, saw cut residue, efflorescence and ground in dirt.
  • Techniseal lists concrete pavers, concrete slabs and interlocking pavers. Check the data sheet before using it on natural stone.
  • Sweep, test a small area, apply per the data sheet dilution and dwell time, agitate, rinse thoroughly, then let it dry fully before sealing.
  • It is not a sealer and not a dedicated rust or oil remover. Dilution, dwell time and protective equipment are on the Techniseal TDS and SDS.

What Techniseal Paver Restorer is

Techniseal Paver Restorer is a hardscape cleaner and restorer. Here is how it compares with the other Techniseal pre seal cleaner, per our product page:

Feature Paver Restorer HD Paver Prep
Main job Polymeric haze and cutting residue Heavy duty efflorescence cleaner and pre seal preparator
Brightens pavers Yes Yes
Prepares the surface for sealing Yes Yes
Also removes Efflorescence and ground in dirt See its own product page

Polymeric haze is the residue left when jointing sand was not swept fully clean before water activation, and our product page notes a generic patio cleaner often will not shift it. Saw cut residue comes from wet cutting, which throws a slurry that dries into the surface around every cut. Paver Restorer is formulated to take both back off. On color, it brightens the existing color by removing what is dulling it, rather than bleaching the material.

Where to use it (and where not to)

Reach for Paver Restorer when the problem is residue rather than general dirt. Our product page lists these jobs:

  • Polymeric haze left after a jointing sand installation
  • Grey film and slurry staining around saw cuts
  • Efflorescence bloom on concrete pavers
  • Older patios and driveways that have dulled
  • Surface preparation before applying a Techniseal sealer
  • Interlocking paver driveways and concrete slab surfaces

And the limits, straight from the manufacturer information:

  • Surfaces. Techniseal lists concrete pavers, concrete slabs and interlocking pavers. Check the technical data sheet before using it on natural stone.
  • It is a cleaner, not a sealer. Follow with the appropriate Techniseal sealer once the surface is clean and fully dry.
  • Not for rust or oil. Use Techniseal Rust Stain Remover or Pro Grade Oil and Grease Remover for those stains.
  • Test first. Always test in a small discrete area, particularly on colored pavers.

If efflorescence is the main problem, our article on when to use efflorescence cleaner explains the timing, and Techniseal HD Paver Prep is the heavy duty option.

How to use Techniseal Paver Restorer

Follow the official Techniseal instructions on the data sheet. This is the sequence given on our product page:

  1. Sweep. Clear the surface of loose material.
  2. Test. Try a small discrete area to confirm the result on your pavers. An 8 oz Paver Restorer sample is a simple way to do this first, and SRW PW Paver Wash, which SRW lists for poly haze, efflorescence and ground in dirt, has an 8 oz sample too.
  3. Apply. Apply per the technical data sheet, respecting its dilution and dwell time.
  4. Agitate. Scrub the heavily affected areas, particularly around cuts and in the joints where haze collects.
  5. Rinse. Rinse thoroughly and completely.
  6. Dry. Let the surface dry fully before sealing. Sealing over trapped moisture causes blushing.

On polymeric haze, work the areas around the joints hardest. That is where the residue is thickest, and where the eye goes when the patio is dry. For more on haze, see how to remove white haze from pavers.

If the joints need redoing after cleaning, our product page pairs Paver Restorer with HP NextGel or SmartSand polymeric sand. Once the surface is clean and dry, seal with Techniseal NS, JS or JSW. Our guides to cleaning pavers before sealing and sealing pavers cover the full sequence.

How much Paver Restorer you need

Our product page does not publish a coverage figure. Coverage depends entirely on how heavy the haze or residue is and how porous the pavers are: a light haze over a whole patio uses product very differently from concentrated cut residue around a few dozen cuts. Check the Techniseal data sheet in our TDS and SDS library for dilution, then call us with your situation and we will help you judge quantity.

Safety and storage

Techniseal says to read the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for dilution, dwell time and protective equipment before you start. It describes Paver Restorer as eco friendly and easy to rinse; near plants and grass, follow the data sheet, rinse thoroughly and protect planting where practical. Both Techniseal documents are in our TDS and SDS library.

Frequently asked questions

Will Techniseal Paver Restorer remove polymeric sand haze?

Yes. That is one of its two headline uses, along with residue from paver and slab cuts.

Is Paver Restorer safe around plants and grass?

Techniseal describes it as an eco friendly cleaner that is easy to rinse. Follow the technical data sheet, rinse thoroughly, and protect planting where practical.

How is Paver Restorer different from HD Paver Prep?

HD Paver Prep is the heavy duty efflorescence cleaner and pre seal preparator. Paver Restorer targets polymeric haze and cutting residue specifically. Both brighten pavers and both prep for sealing.

Can I seal right after cleaning with Paver Restorer?

Not until the surface is completely dry. Sealing over trapped moisture causes blushing.

Will Paver Restorer lighten my pavers?

It brightens the existing color by removing what is dulling it, rather than bleaching the material.
