White haze on pavers after a polymeric sand install is the most common thing that goes wrong on an otherwise good job. The important thing to understand is that haze is not a defect in the sand. It is an installation outcome, and it is almost entirely preventable.
Polymeric sand contains binders that activate when they get wet. If any sand is still sitting on the face of the pavers when you water the joints, those binders cure on the surface instead of down in the joint. The result is a thin, hard, chalky film bonded to the stone.
Nothing about the product caused that. The binder did exactly what it is designed to do, in the wrong place. This is why no polymeric sand can honestly be sold as haze proof: leave sand on the surface with any brand and you will get the same result.
Formulations do differ. Some modern sands use binder systems that leave less residue if a small amount is missed, and some are noticeably more forgiving on textured or tumbled pavers than older Portland cement based products were. Air cure and resin jointing products behave differently again, since they do not rely on the same watering step.
That is a real difference in how much margin for error you get. It is not the same as immunity, and any product will haze if the surface is not clean when the water hits it.
