The Sealer For Vertical Masonry, Not Just The Patio Floor

WR7 is a water based waterproofing sealer for concrete, brick, and other masonry. It shields those surfaces from the crumbling and spalling caused by salt and freeze thaw cycles, protects against erosion and efflorescence, and preserves the natural appearance of the material. The part that sets it apart in this line is that it works on vertical structures as well as horizontal ones.

Horizontal And Vertical
Walls, piers, and steps as well as paving
Stops Spalling
Protects against salt and freeze thaw damage
Natural Appearance
Matt finish, no color change
150 sq ft per Gallon
750 sq ft per 5 gallon

Why Contractors Ask for WR7 Waterproofing Sealer by Name

Salt and freeze thaw cycles are what destroy masonry in a cold climate. Water gets in, freezes, expands, and takes the face of the brick or concrete with it. WR7 is aimed squarely at that mechanism.

  • It prevents crumbling and spalling. Techniseal names salt and freezing cycles as the causes it protects against, which is the specific failure mode on northern masonry.
  • It works on vertical surfaces. Most sealers in a hardscape line are for paving. WR7 is rated for both horizontal and vertical structures, so retaining walls, piers, steps, and brick facades are all in scope.
  • It protects against efflorescence, the white bloom that comes through masonry as moisture migrates and evaporates.
  • It preserves the natural appearance of concrete, brick, and stone. Matt finish, natural look, no gloss and no color change.
  • Broad surface approval. Techniseal lists natural stone, brick, concrete pavers, concrete slabs, interlocking pavers, poured concrete, and interior concrete.
  • High grade water based formula, so cleanup and odor are manageable on an occupied property.

Manufacturer Techniseal

Techniseal publishes 150 sq ft per gallon and 750 sq ft per 5 gallon, and notes that actual coverage varies with surface porosity. Brick and older masonry are typically thirstier than a dense concrete paver, so budget above the published figure on porous work.

Where WR7 Waterproofing Sealer Works

WR7 is the product for masonry that has to survive winter.

  • Brick walls, facades, and chimneys
  • Retaining walls and freestanding masonry
  • Concrete steps, stoops, and landings exposed to de-icing salt
  • Poured concrete driveways, walkways, and patios
  • Natural stone walls and vertical stone veneer
  • Interior concrete floors and walls
  • Any masonry showing early signs of surface spalling
  • Structures where a matte, unchanged appearance is required

Where WR7 Waterproofing Sealer Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

This is a protector, not a repair product. It will not restore masonry that has already spalled; it protects sound material from further damage.

It does not stabilize paver joints. NS, JS, and JSW are the joint stabilizing sealers in this line.

It does not enhance color. For that, use CB+, JS, or JSW.

Do not apply over a damp, dirty, or efflorescent surface. Clean, treat, and dry first, or you seal the problem in.

Read the current technical data sheet for temperature and cure requirements before you start.

How to Install WR7 Waterproofing Sealer

Follow the official Techniseal instructions, linked below. This is the shape of the job:

  1. Clean the masonry thoroughly and remove any existing efflorescence.
  2. Allow the surface to dry completely. Trapped moisture is the enemy of any waterproofing sealer.
  3. Test a small discrete area first to confirm appearance and absorption.
  4. Apply evenly per the technical data sheet. On vertical surfaces, work from the bottom up to control runs.
  5. Respect the recoat and cure times Techniseal specifies.
  6. Keep the surface out of service through the cure period.

On vertical work, runs and drips are the main risk. Working bottom up and keeping a wet edge is what keeps the finish even.

Quick Answers

Can I use it on a brick wall?
Yes. Brick is on the approved surface list, and WR7 is rated for vertical as well as horizontal surfaces.

Will it change how the brick looks?
No. WR7 is a matt, natural look sealer that preserves the appearance of concrete, brick, and stone.

Will it stop my steps from spalling?
It protects sound masonry from the salt and freeze thaw damage that causes spalling. Damage already present will not be reversed by sealing.

Does it help with efflorescence?
Techniseal lists protection against efflorescence among its benefits. Remove any existing efflorescence before sealing.

How much do I need?
Up to 150 sq ft per gallon or 750 sq ft per 5 gallon, adjusted for how porous the masonry is.

Can I use it indoors?
Yes. Interior concrete is on the approved surface list.
