Dissolves Efflorescence Without Muriatic Acid, So It Cleans Deep Without Bleaching The Paver

Paver Prep is formulated to dissolve efflorescence, the whitish salt bloom that migrates to the surface of concrete, and to remove ground in dirt and traffic marks from pavers, slabs, and retaining walls. It contains no hydrochloric acid, which is the ingredient in muriatic based cleaners that etches and lightens concrete. It works deep, cleans evenly, brightens the color, and lets a sealer penetrate properly afterwards.

Why Contractors Ask for Paver Prep by Name

The old way to clean efflorescence off concrete was muriatic acid, and the old result was a clean patch that was noticeably lighter than everything around it.

  • No hydrochloric acid. Techniseal is explicit that Paver Prep contains none, and that this is why it works deep without discoloring or damaging the surface.
  • It cleans evenly. That is the practical difference from an acid wash, which tends to clean hardest wherever it pooled and leave a patchy result.
  • It dissolves efflorescence rather than scrubbing at it. Efflorescence is mineral salt coming through the concrete, and it needs chemistry rather than effort.
  • It removes ground in dirt and traffic marks in the same pass.
  • It brightens the paver color without damaging the material, which on an older patio is often most of what the customer wanted.
  • It improves sealer penetration, which Techniseal states extends the durability of the sealing job. A sealer over contamination fails early.
  • Rated for retaining walls as well as pavers and slabs, so vertical concrete is in scope.

Paver Prep Specifications

Product Type Efflorescence cleaner and pre seal preparator
Container Size 1 gallon
Acid Content No hydrochloric, or muriatic, acid
Removes Efflorescence, ground in dirt, traffic marks, staining contaminants
Effect On Color Brightens without damaging or discoloring
Secondary Benefit Improves sealer penetration and durability
Approved Surfaces Concrete pavers, concrete slabs, interlocking pavers, concrete retaining walls
Manufacturer Techniseal

How far a gallon goes depends on how heavy the efflorescence is and how porous the concrete is. An older wall with years of bloom will take considerably more than a lightly affected new patio.

Where Paver Prep Works

Use it wherever the white bloom has appeared, and before any sealer goes down.

  • Efflorescence on concrete paver patios and driveways
  • Concrete retaining walls with salt bloom
  • Pre seal preparation on concrete pavers and slabs
  • Older patios dulled by ground in dirt and traffic marks
  • Interlocking paver walkways and entries
  • Any job where a customer has complained about white haze on the concrete

Where Paver Prep Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Techniseal lists concrete pavers, slabs, interlocking pavers, and retaining walls. Check the technical data sheet before using it on natural stone or clay.

This is a cleaner, not a sealer. Follow with the appropriate Techniseal sealer once the surface is fully dry.

Deal with the source of persistent efflorescence where you can. Continuous moisture migration will keep bringing salts to the surface.

Always test in a small discrete area first.

Read the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for dilution, dwell time, and protective equipment before you start.

How to Use Paver Prep

Follow the official Techniseal instructions, linked below. This is the shape of the job:

  1. Sweep the surface clear of loose debris.
  2. Test in a small discrete area to confirm the result on your material.
  3. Apply per the technical data sheet, observing the dilution and dwell time.
  4. Agitate where the efflorescence or dirt is heaviest.
  5. Rinse thoroughly. Residue left behind gets sealed in later.
  6. Let the surface dry completely before applying any sealer.

Efflorescence often reappears once if the concrete is still curing or still passing moisture. A second treatment some weeks later is normal on newer work, not a sign the product failed.

Quick Answers

Does it contain muriatic acid?
No. Techniseal states it contains no hydrochloric, or muriatic, acid, which is why it does not discolor or damage the surface.

How is it different from HD Paver Prep?
HD Paver Prep is the high duty version for heavier contamination. Paver Prep is the standard strength product for routine efflorescence and pre seal cleaning.

Will it lighten my pavers?
It brightens the existing color by removing what is dulling it. It does not bleach the concrete the way an acid wash can.

Can I use it on a retaining wall?
Yes. Techniseal lists pavers, slabs, and retaining walls made of concrete.

How long before I can seal?
Until the surface is completely dry. Sealing over trapped moisture causes blushing and whitening.

Why does efflorescence keep coming back?
Because moisture is still moving through the concrete and carrying salts to the surface. Address the moisture source and it will stop.
