What It Protects Against

• Water and staining, the everyday reasons to seal stone.
• Salt ion intrusion, which matters on anything exposed to de-icing salt.
• Freeze and thaw damage, by keeping water out of the pore structure.
• Alkalis, and it stays UV transparent so it will not yellow.
• Incidental food contact is covered, so it meets USDA requirements for that use.

Specifications

The Two Limits That Catch People Out

• It will not stop acid etching. A penetrating sealer keeps liquids out of the pores. It does not stop acid dissolving the surface of marble or limestone. Lemon juice and wine will still etch a polished marble counter.
• It is oil based and may shade some materials. The manufacturer says so plainly and requires a test patch in an inconspicuous area first. On light stone this matters.

Applying It Properly

• The surface must be dry and free of any previous sealer. Existing coatings and waxes have to be stripped first.
• Do not dilute or thin it. Use it straight from the container.
• Do not apply in direct sunlight, and outdoors do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours.
• Buff all excess off within 3 to 5 minutes. This is not optional on any substrate. Excess left to dry leaves a residue that is difficult to remove.
• Protect neighbouring surfaces, wood, carpet, metal and planting included.
• Keep it dry for 72 hours and move furniture and rugs back after that.

When a Different 511 Is the Right One

For very porous or difficult substrates the manufacturer directs you to 511 Porous Plus, 511 Water-Base or 511 H2O Plus instead of this one, and some grouts need a water based sealer. If you tell us the material we will say which of them fits rather than selling you the one you happened to find. Once it is sealed, 511 Kleen and Reseal is the maintenance cleaner that tops the seal up.
