High Gloss Water Based Sealer That Keeps Your Paver Color

Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss adds a high gloss shine with no color change, a clear coat rather than a color enhancer. Water based, low VOC, safe for indoor use, and it stabilizes the joint sand as it seals. 1 and 5 gallon.

Why Contractors Ask for Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss by Name

Plenty of customers like their paver color exactly as it is and just want shine and protection. Alliance's own framing: the Hybrid High Gloss "will retain same color, but adds a shine like a clear coat."

  • High gloss with no color enhancement. The paver keeps its own color, you just add shine.
  • Water based and low VOC at under 100 g/L, SCAQMD compliant, and usable indoors on concrete or natural stone.
  • Joint stabilizer. Binds the polymeric sand as it seals.
  • Will not discolor. Alliance lists this explicitly among the product features.
  • Works above 40 F, a wider window than the 60 F floor on the solvent line.
  • Guards against de-icing salt corrosion, UV, motor oil and grease staining.

Where Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss Works

Alliance rates Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss for:

  • Dry cast concrete paver patios
  • Walkways and pool decks
  • Driveways
  • Indoor concrete and natural stone
  • Previously unsealed surfaces only

Where Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Unsealed pavers only. Not for surfaces already sealed or factory pre-sealed. And a hard rule from Alliance: a water based sealer can never go over a solvent based one.

Wait 60 days after the pavers are installed, and until the polymeric sand has cured 48 hours above 60 F.

Do not apply if rain is forecast within 24 hours, or if the surface is not cool to the touch.

Apply between 40 F and 85 F. Over-application causes milky or blotchy spots. Store the container above 32 F or the warranty is void.

How to Apply Gator Hybrid Seal High Gloss

The full step by step guide is in the official documentation below. Here is the shape of the job:

  1. Test roughly 4 sq ft in a hidden area. Alliance limits the warranty to that area if you skip it.
  2. Remove stains with Gator Clean products, and strip any unknown coating with Gator Sealer Stripper.
  3. Replace contaminated joint sand with Gator Polymeric Sand, then wait 48 hours above 60 F with no rain.
  4. Clean the whole surface with Gator Efflorescence Cleaner, then wait another 48 hours to dry.
  5. Spray one coat in 60 sq ft sections and back-roll with a water-base yellow foam roller to pull out excess and puddles. Two people works best.

Rain safe and back in service after 24 hours. Use a water-base yellow foam roller, not a solvent-resistant one.

Hybrid or Solvent? What Alliance Actually Says

Their FAQ is unusually direct about the trade-off:

  • Durability, "solvent-based sealers tend to be harder and more durable, in terms of glossy finishes, meaning that the shine will generally last longer."
  • Finish life, solvent Wet Look and Satin Look 3 to 5 years; Hybrid water based 2 to 3 years; Signature Natural Look around 10 years.
  • Color: Hybrid High Gloss and Low Gloss keep the original color and add shine. Satin Look and Wet Look deepen and enhance it.
  • Indoors, water based only. Alliance does not recommend the solvent sealers for indoor use.
  • Layering, solvent over solvent or water based is fine. Water based over solvent is never allowed.

Quick Answers

Can I put this over a solvent based sealer?
No. Alliance is explicit: a water based sealer can never go over a solvent based one. A solvent sealer can go over either.

How soon can it rain?
24 hours, which is longer than the 90 minutes the solvent Gator Seal line needs.

When can I walk or drive on it?
24 hours for both.

How many coats?
One. Over-application is what causes milky or blotchy patches.

Can I use it indoors?
Alliance says all their water based sealers can be used indoors on concrete or natural stone. They do not recommend the solvent ones indoors.

How long will the finish last?
Alliance puts the Hybrid water based line at 2 to 3 years, against 3 to 5 for their solvent sealers.

Can I use it on a wall?
Alliance recommends a breathable, non film-forming sealer on walls. The Hybrid line is film forming, so the Signature Series Natural Look is the better fit there.
