SEK Surebond SB-1300 Sealer: Matte Joint Stabilizer and Coverage

SEK Surebond SB-1300 joint stabilizing paver sealer, matte finish, 1 gallon

Polymeric Sand Store Hardscape Experts |

SEK Surebond SB-1300 is the sealer SEK built the rest of its line around. It is a water based acrylic copolymer that stabilizes the joint sand and seals the paver surface in a single application, and it dries clear to a matte, natural look finish. The point of SB-1300 is protection and joint stability, not a change in appearance: no gloss, no sheen, no darker paver.

It suits homeowners and contractors who want a sealed, stabilized patio, walkway or wall that still looks unsealed, especially in shaded spots where mold, moss and algae are the real problem. This guide covers what SB-1300 is, where SEK rates it, the prep and application sequence, and how much you need, using figures from the SEK Surebond product literature and our product page, with the SEK data sheet as the final word.

Quick answer

  • SB-1300 is a water based, single component acrylic copolymer that stabilizes joint sand and seals the surface in one pass, drying clear to a matte finish.
  • Coverage per SEK: 80 to 120 sq ft per gallon with joint stabilization, 150 to 250 sq ft per gallon for sealing only, one coat.
  • Antifungal (inhibits mold, moss and algae) and breathable, so it does not trap moisture or efflorescence under a film.
  • Apply to a clean, dry surface and test a small area first. SEK does not recommend it on granite, marble, asphalt or glazed and ceramic tile.

What SEK Surebond SB-1300 is

SEK Surebond SB-1300 Joint Stabilizing Paver Sealer does two jobs at once. Its headline traits, as SEK describes them:

Trait What it means on the job
Joint stabilizing plus surface sealing Stabilizes joint sand and seals the surface in the same application
Matte, natural look Protects the paver without announcing that anything was applied
Milky white when applied, dries clear You can see your coverage while you work
Antifungal Formulated to inhibit mold, moss and algae on shaded patios
Breathable Does not trap moisture or efflorescence under a film
Stain resistant Spills sit on the surface rather than soaking into the paver
Reduced sand washout Fewer weeds, fewer ants, less joint refilling

The breathable point matters more than it sounds. A sealer that traps moisture or efflorescence under a film is how sealers end up causing the white bloom they were meant to stop. The antifungal point matters most on shaded, damp patios, where mold, moss and algae are the usual complaint.

Where to use it (and where not to)

SEK rates SB-1300 for:

  • Concrete and clay pavers
  • Stamped and flat concrete
  • Masonry and exposed aggregate
  • Natural and manufactured stone
  • Segmental retaining wall block and concrete walls
  • Horizontal and vertical surfaces

SEK also states it can be applied immediately after installation. These are the manufacturer's exclusions:

  • Granite and marble: not recommended.
  • Asphalt: not recommended.
  • Glazed or ceramic tile: not recommended.

Natural stone and clay vary batch to batch, so SEK asks for a test patch every time to confirm both performance and appearance.

How to use SEK Surebond SB-1300

Follow the label and the current SEK data sheet. The sequence from the product page:

  1. Clean the surface. Every SEK sealer wants a clean surface. Efflorescence, ground in dirt or an old failed sealer has to come off first, or the new sealer bonds to the contamination instead of the paver. See how to clean pavers before sealing and when to use efflorescence cleaner.
  2. Let it dry. The surface must be dry before you seal.
  3. Test a small area. SEK asks for this every time. Our SB-1300 8 oz sample is enough for a test patch. We fill those sample bottles ourselves; we carry the sealer itself in the 1 gallon size.
  4. Apply one coat. SEK's coverage figures are based on one coat. The how to video on our product page shows a thin, even coat from a pump sprayer, back rolled with a roller.
  5. Watch the color. SB-1300 goes on milky white and dries clear, which is how you can see your coverage while you work.

For timing before you walk or drive on the surface, follow the SEK data sheet. Our articles on how to seal pavers and how long to wait after sealing give the general picture.

How much SB-1300 you need

Coverage splits hard depending on whether you are stabilizing joints or only sealing the surface. Stabilizing pulls sealer down into the sand, so it uses far more.

Use Coverage per gallon, one coat 400 sq ft patio needs
With joint stabilization 80 to 120 sq ft About 3.3 to 5 gallons
Sealing only 150 to 250 sq ft About 1.6 to 2.7 gallons

SEK notes that porosity, age and application method move the real number, so round up. Run your own square footage through the paver sealer coverage calculator.

Safety and storage

SEK lists SB-1300 as water based, non hazardous, and VOC and EPA compliant. For protective equipment, ventilation and storage conditions, read the SEK safety data sheet in our TDS and SDS library.
