A Practical Note
Tongs work best on units of consistent height. A stack of mixed thickness pavers will not clamp evenly and can slip. Set the tong on a level row, close it firmly, and lift smoothly rather than snatching. And keep your feet clear, because when a tong does let go it drops the whole row at once.
