Every plastic edging callback traces back to the same thing. The spikes lifted, the strip followed, and the outside course of pavers walked outward.
- Ten inches of length. That is what gets the nail past the bedding sand and into the compacted base where it has something to grip through a freeze and thaw cycle.
- Strong built for the load. A thin or soft nail bends as it is driven, especially into a properly compacted base, and a bent nail holds nothing.

Nail quantity is driven by the spacing your edging technical data sheet specifies, and spacing tightens on curves and on driveways. Work out your linear feet, check the required spacing, and add a margin. Running out of nails halfway around a perimeter stops the job.

Where Techniseal Edging Nails Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)
These are for edging installed over a properly compacted base. On permeable and open graded systems, nails have very little to grip, and a bonded edge such as Techniseal Edge Bond is the better answer.
Do not increase the spacing to stretch a box of nails. Spacing is what makes the restraint work.
Do not substitute shorter nails. Length is the point of a 10 inch spike.

How to Use Techniseal Edging Nails
Follow the edging technical data sheet for spacing. This is the shape of the job:
- Set the edging in position against the outside course, seated on compacted base.
- Confirm the required nail spacing from the edging instructions, tightening it on curves.
- Drive each nail through the edging hole, straight down into the base.
- Check that heads seat flush rather than standing proud where they could catch.
- Work around the perimeter, verifying the edging stays tight to the pavers as you go.
- Backfill the outside of the edging once fastened.
Drive them straight. A nail driven at an angle has far less holding power and can push the edging out of line as it goes in.
