Safe Step Enviro-Blend 6300 Pet Friendly Ice Melt, 40 lb Pail, Melts to -10 F
What Is Actually In The Bag
Most ice melt marketing hides the composition. Compass publish theirs, which makes it possible to judge the product on something other than the picture of a dog on the label.
| Sodium Chloride, NaCl | 74.85 percent minimum |
| Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate | 20 percent minimum |
| Potassium Chloride, KCl | 5 percent minimum |
| MG-104 corrosion inhibitor | 0.15 percent minimum |
Why Blend At All
- Sodium chloride is cheap and melts well down to about 20 F, then it stalls.
- Magnesium chloride keeps working colder and is gentler on vegetation than straight salt.
- Potassium chloride adds melting capacity without adding more sodium.
- MG-104 is the corrosion inhibitor, which is the part that matters if this is going near vehicles or metal railings.

How Cold Does It Actually Get Where You Are?
This is the question that decides which product you want. Enviro-Blend 6300 stops at -10 F. If your forecast regularly goes below that, straight calcium chloride such as Peladow will keep working when this will not. If you never see below zero, this blend is easier on surfaces and cheaper to run.
