Why Pre-Treating Changes the Job
Granular de-icer is reactive. You wait for the ice, then spread product to break a bond that has already formed. A liquid applied to a dry surface before the storm leaves a film that stops that bond forming at all, so the snow that lands can be swept or shoveled off cleanly. On steps and porches, where a shovel is awkward and a fall is expensive, that is the whole game.

This Is Not the Same as Liquid Paw Shield
We carry two liquid de-icers and they are different products. This is the black label Liquid Ice Melt, a professional grade specialty blend enhanced with CMA and rated to -25 F. Liquid Paw Shield is our pet safe liquid, sold in 1, 2.5 and 5 gallon sizes. If you are treating a surface a dog crosses several times a day, look at Paw Shield. If you want the colder rating and the specialty blend, this is the one.

How to Apply
- For pre-treating, put it down on a dry surface a few hours before the snow starts.
- A pump sprayer gives the most even film and the least waste.
- Do not flood the surface. A thin, even wet film is all that is needed.
- Reapply after heavy rain, which will wash a pre-treatment off before the snow arrives.
