EveryMan’s Rock Salt Ice Melt, 25 and 50 lb Bags, Deicing Salt
What EveryMan’s Rock Salt Is For
This is the workhorse product in the range. It is not the gentlest de-icer and it is not the coldest rated, but it is the one that costs the least per pound and covers the most ground, which is exactly what a long driveway or a commercial lot needs.
- Melts snow and ice and improves traction on slippery outdoor surfaces.
- Built for large areas. Driveways, sidewalks, steps, walkways and parking lots.
- Spreads any way you like. By hand, with a scoop or shovel, or through a standard ice melt spreader.
- Two bag sizes. The 50 lb bulk bag for residential, commercial and property maintenance, and a 25 lb bag that is easier to lift and store.
Which Bag Size
| 25 lb bag | Easier to carry and store. The choice for a single driveway, a set of steps, or anyone who would rather not wrestle a 50 lb bag. |
| 50 lb bag | The best value per pound and the standard for commercial and property maintenance use. |
Choosing Between Rock Salt and the Gentler Options
Rock salt is the most aggressive product on this shelf. It works, it is cheap, and it is hard on concrete that has not fully cured, on metal and on planting beds. If the area you are treating is new concrete, a paver patio you care about, or a walkway your dog uses daily, one of the calcium magnesium acetate products is the better choice even though it costs more per pound.
| Product type | Rock salt de-icer, sodium chloride |
| Bag sizes | 25 lb and 50 lb |
| Application | By hand, scoop, shovel or spreader |
| Best for | Driveways, sidewalks, steps, walkways, parking lots |
| Consider instead | CMA products for pets, new concrete or planting beds |
How to Apply
- Shovel or plow the loose snow off first. Rock salt is for the bonded layer underneath, not for melting a snowbank.
- Spread evenly and lightly. More product does not melt faster, it just costs more and runs off.
- Give it time to work, then clear the slush before it refreezes overnight.
- Keep it off new concrete under 12 months old, and sweep up what lands in planting beds.
