Most pet friendly ice melt is a conventional chloride blend with something mixed in to soften it. Dead Sea is magnesium chloride, and magnesium chloride is naturally gentler than sodium or calcium chloride to begin with. It melts down to -15 F and comes as pellets or flake.

Why Magnesium Chloride Sits In The Middle
There is a clear hierarchy in de-icer chemistry. Sodium chloride is cheapest and harshest. Calcium chloride is the strongest and works coldest. Magnesium chloride sits between them: it works colder than rock salt, it is markedly gentler on paws, concrete and planting, and it costs less than the acetate products.
- Naturally pet friendly. The gentleness is inherent to magnesium chloride rather than added afterward.
- Effective to -15 F. Genuine cold weather capability, well past where rock salt stalls.
- Pellets or flake. Pellets bore down through ice, flake starts working faster.
