Calcium Chloride Pellets Ice Melt Pail, 8 to 40 lb, Fast Acting to -25 F
Why Calcium Chloride Pellets
Calcium chloride is exothermic. It releases heat as it dissolves, so instead of waiting for sunlight to do the work it melts down through the ice and breaks the bond with the pavement from underneath. The pellet shape is what lets it drill rather than sit on the surface.
- High efficiency formula. Calcium chloride pellets for rapid and effective ice melting.
- Works in extreme cold. Exceptionally effective at temperatures where rock salt has stopped doing anything useful.
- Surface safety. Formulated to be safe on a range of surfaces when applied as directed.
- Resealable pail. Keeps the product dry and free flowing between storms and between seasons.
Choosing A Size
The small pails are for keeping by a door for steps and thresholds. The larger ones are for a driveway or a run of sidewalk. Buying the size that matches how you actually use it beats buying the cheapest per pound and letting half of it cake up.
| 8 lb pail | Steps, thresholds and a small front walk |
| 15 lb pail | A short walkway or a single entry |
| 20 lb pail | A standard walkway plus steps |
| 30 lb pail | A driveway apron or a longer walk |
| 40 lb pail | Full driveway and sidewalk for a storm |
Using It Well
- Spread thin. More product does not melt faster, it just costs more and puts more chloride into your soil.
- Apply before the storm where you can. Preventing the bond is far easier than breaking it.
- Shovel first, then treat. De-icer is not a substitute for moving snow.
- Keep it off new concrete. Concrete under a year old has not cured enough for any de-icer.
