Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets 8 lb Bag, Effective to -25 F
Why This Chemistry Works When Others Stop
Calcium chloride does two things no other common de-icer does at once. It drops the freezing point of water further than sodium or magnesium chloride can, and dissolving it is exothermic, meaning it gives off heat. It melts downward through the ice under its own steam rather than waiting for daylight.
- Effective to -25 F. The practical floor for granular ice melt.
- Exothermic action. Generates its own heat as it dissolves.
- Pellet form. Pellets drill through ice and break the bond with the pavement rather than sitting on the surface.
- Fast. Calcium chloride is the quickest acting of the common de-icer chemistries.
What The Small Bag Is For
- Front and back steps, where a fall actually happens
- Thresholds and door landings that refreeze overnight
- The short path between the door and the car
- Keeping in the vehicle for a windshield scraper kit
- Topping up after a storm when the big bag is empty

A Word On Surfaces
Calcium chloride is powerful, and powerful de-icers are hard on things. Keep it off concrete under a year old, and be careful on natural stone and decorative masonry. If the surface matters more than the temperature, our CMA blended and natural products are the gentler choice.
