Alliance Gator XTreme Edge Cementitious Paver Edge Compound, 50 lb Bag
A Poured Structural Edge That Will Not Rot, Rust, Or Pop Out Of The Ground
Gator XTreme Edge is a 3D reinforced micro-fiber mesh and polymer modified structural edge that you mix with water and trowel in place. Instead of nailing a plastic strip to the perimeter and hoping the spikes hold, you build a continuous cementitious haunch that locks the outside course of pavers for the life of the patio. One 50 lb bag covers roughly 15 linear feet on traditional and open graded installs, or about 12 linear feet over Gator Base.

Why Contractors Ask for Gator XTreme Edge by Name
Plastic paver edging is the single most common warranty callback in residential hardscaping. Spikes heave, the strip lifts, and the outside course walks. XTreme Edge removes the failure point entirely.
- No spikes, no strip, no heave. The edge is a continuous polymer modified compound troweled directly against the paver and base, so there is no fastener to work loose over a freeze and thaw cycle.
- 3D micro-fiber mesh reinforcement. The fiber network gives the cured edge tensile strength, which is what keeps a thin haunch from cracking off when a mower wheel or truck tire rides over it.
- It disappears. A troweled edge sits below grade and gets covered by soil, mulch, or sod. Nothing shows at the perimeter, which matters on high end natural stone and porcelain work.
- Works on the installs plastic edging cannot. Overlay, permeable, open graded, and Gator Base systems all give spikes very little to bite into. A cementitious edge bonds to whatever is there.
- Rated for vehicular. Alliance approves it for both pedestrian and vehicular applications, including driveways.
- One bag, one bucket, one trowel. No cutting, no connectors, no 60 spikes per pallet to keep in the truck.

Where Gator XTreme Edge Works
XTreme Edge is the answer any time the perimeter has to hold but you do not want hardware in the ground.
- Patio and walkway perimeters where the edge meets soil, mulch, or lawn
- Driveway edges that see regular vehicle loads
- Overlay projects where pavers sit over existing concrete and spikes have nothing to grab
- Permeable and open graded systems with clear stone bedding
- Gator Base installations, using the 12 linear foot per bag figure
- Curved and radius edges, where rigid plastic strip is a fight
- Natural stone and wet cast borders where visible plastic would ruin the look
- Porcelain paver perimeters on pedestal or bedded systems
Where Gator XTreme Edge Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)
Do not apply over frozen ground or into standing water in the trench.
Do not thin the mix past 1/2 gallon per bag to make it easier to trowel. Extra water is the fastest way to a weak, crumbly edge.
Do not sand the joints or run the final compaction pass before the 90 minute mark has passed.
This is a structural edge, not a jointing product. It does not go in the paver joints, only against the outside face and base.

How to Install Gator XTreme Edge
Read the full Alliance instructions before you start. This is the shape of the job:
- Remove the excess bedding sand or setting material along the outside of the perimeter course, 4 in wide and 1/2 in to 1 in deep, down to the compacted base.
- Pour one 50 lb bag into a mixing tub or wheelbarrow and add 1/2 US gallon (1.9 L) of clean water.
- Mix until the material is completely homogeneous with no dry pockets. Mix only what you can place before it stiffens.
- Trowel the mixture into the trench at roughly a 30 degree angle, covering the full 4 in width and carrying it at least 1 in up the side face of the paver.
- Work the edge smooth and consistent. Repeat bag by bag around the perimeter.
- Wait a minimum of 90 minutes.
- Sweep in your jointing sand and run the final plate compaction over the paved surface.
- Backfill the outside of the edge with soil, mulch, or sod once cured.
On Gator Base installs, plan your bag count on 12 linear feet per bag instead of 15. Ordering to the traditional figure is the most common way crews come up one bag short at the end of a run.
Quick Answers
How many bags do I need?
Measure the total linear feet of open perimeter, the edge that is not against a house, curb, or wall. Divide by 15 for traditional and open graded, or by 12 over Gator Base. Round up.
Can I use this instead of plastic edging on a driveway?
Yes. Alliance rates XTreme Edge for vehicular applications.
How long before it can get rained on?
Give it the full 90 minutes before jointing and compaction. Protect fresh edge from heavy rain during that window.
Does it come in colors?
It is a structural product installed below grade and then covered. Color is not a consideration because it does not remain visible.
Can I mix half a bag?
Alliance specifies the ratio per full bag. Splitting a bag by eye is how you end up with an inconsistent water ratio and a soft edge.
