Why Contractors Ask for Gator Eurostone Bond by Name
Standard paver polymeric sand is designed around tight, uniform 1/8 in joints. Natural stone does not give you those. Eurostone Bond is graded and formulated for the reality of flagstone work.
- Handles wide joints. Rated to 1-1/2 in (3.8 cm), which covers the great majority of irregular flagstone and bluestone layouts without a second product.
- ASTM C144 gradation. The particle sizing is the recognized mortar sand standard, which is what lets it pack into a wide joint without bridging or voiding.
- Slate grey, and only slate grey. Alliance did not chase a color range here. Grey reads as a mortar joint against bluestone, slate, and mixed fieldstone, which is what most natural stone patios want.
- Sets down to freezing. Cures above 32 degrees F (0 degrees C), which extends your season on the shoulder months when natural stone work often gets scheduled.
- Rain safe in one hour. On traditional applications, one hour after water activation. Overlay installs need 24 hours.

Coverage on natural stone swings hard with joint width and depth. The narrow joint figure assumes tight, consistent gaps; the wide joint figure assumes the irregular flagstone layouts most people are actually installing. If your joints are genuinely 1 in or wider across the whole patio, plan on the low end.

Where Gator Eurostone Bond Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)
Not recommended for clay pavers. Alliance states this directly.
Do not use on asphalt.
Do not apply to a damp or wet surface. The stone and joints must be dry before you sweep the sand in, or you will stain the surface.
Not suitable for pavers with large voids in the aggregate base. If the bedding underneath has open voids, the sand will keep migrating down and the joint will never hold.
Joints shallower than 1-1/2 in do not have enough depth for the product to lock. Deepen the joint or choose a different system.

How to Install Gator Eurostone Bond
Read the Alliance TDS before you start. This is the shape of the job:
- Confirm the stone and the joints are completely dry. Any surface moisture at this stage causes staining.
- Sweep the sand into the joints with a hard bristle broom, working it fully to the bottom of the joint.
- Vibrate the surface with a plate compactor, using a rubber pad to protect the stone face.
- Top up any joints that dropped, then sweep every last grain off the stone surface. Leftover sand on the face is what causes haze.
- Bring the final sand level to at least 1/8 in below the top of the stone.
- Water activate in manageable sections, starting at the lowest point of the patio. Shower a minimum of 90 seconds per 50 sq ft.
- Keep foot traffic off through the initial set. Traditional installs are rain safe after 1 hour; overlay installs need 24 hours.
Quick Answers
Will it work in a 2 in joint?
No. Alliance caps Eurostone Bond at 1-1/2 in wide. Beyond that you are outside the rated range.
Can I use it on a paver patio instead of Gator Maxx?
You can, but you are paying for a natural stone formulation you do not need. For concrete pavers, Gator Maxx G2 or Nitro X is the better fit.
Is there a color other than slate grey?
No. Eurostone Bond is produced in slate grey only.
How cold can I install it?
It sets above 32 degrees F. Below freezing, stop.
How much do I need?
Measure your square footage, then be honest about your joints. Wide irregular flagstone joints can eat three times the sand of a tight layout. Use the wide joint coverage figure if in doubt.
Does it stain bluestone?
Not when installed dry and swept completely clean before water activation. Sand left on the stone face during activation is the cause of nearly every haze complaint.
