What Is Alliance Gator Dust Bond Polymeric Stone Dust?
Alliance Gator Dust Bond is the polymeric stone dust jointing material. a fundamentally different product from polymeric sand. Instead of calibrated sand, it is made from calibrated stone dust mixed with polymer binders. Alliance Gator Dust Bond polymeric stone dust fills and locks wide joints from 1/2 inch to 6 inches, making it the right choice for natural stone and wet cast stone projects where joint widths vary widely or exceed what any polymeric sand can handle.
Once activated with water, Alliance Gator Dust Bond polymeric stone dust sets very firm between the stone joints while retaining enough flexibility to handle freeze thaw cycles without cracking. Alliance Gator Dust Bond continues to harden over time, getting stronger with age. Available in Sahara Beige and Stone Grey.
Important. read before ordering: Gator Dust Bond is for wet cast and natural stone only on a traditional base. It cannot be used on concrete pavers, over concrete slabs, or in areas with vehicular traffic. It requires a minimum temperature of 59°F and no rain for 24 hours before and after installation. If you have concrete pavers or need vehicular-rated jointing, see our polymeric sand products instead.

Is Alliance Gator Dust Bond the Right Jointing Material for Your Project?
Gator Dust Bond is NOT for concrete pavers, vehicular areas, or overlay installations. It is for wet cast and natural stone on a traditional base, pedestrian use only. If you have concrete pavers, shop our polymeric sand products.
Natural stone patios and walkways The ideal choice for flagstone, slate, bluestone, granite, and other natural stones with variable joint widths from 1/2 inch to 6 inches on a traditional base. Pedestrian use only.
Wet cast stone patios and walkways Works with wet cast stepping stones and wet cast stone slabs on a traditional base system. Pedestrian use only.
Pool decks and pool surrounds Recommended for natural and wet cast stone pool installations on a traditional base. A slope of 1/8 inch per linear foot away from the pool is mandatory. Pool coping joints must use mortar. Gator Dust Bond is for the surrounding stone field only.
Wide joints from 1/2 inch to 6 inches The only Alliance jointing product that handles joints this wide. Regular polymeric sands top out at 1 to 4 inches. Gator Dust Bond fills the wide, irregular gaps common with natural stone.
Gator Base installations Compatible with installations using Gator Base as the base system in place of traditional crushed stone and bedding sand.
Not for concrete pavers, driveways, or vehicular use Gator Dust Bond is pedestrian use only. Do not use where vehicles will travel. For concrete paver driveways or vehicular applications, see our polymeric sand products.
What Makes Alliance Gator Dust Bond Different from Regular Stone Dust?
Polymer binder formula locks stone dust into the joint Regular stone dust has no binding agent and washes out after rain. Alliance Gator Dust Bond's polymer binders permanently lock the stone dust in place once activated with water, creating a firm, durable joint that regular dust cannot match.
Handles wide joints from 1/2 inch to 6 inches The widest joint range of any Alliance jointing product. Perfect for the irregular, wide gaps common in natural stone, flagstone, and wet cast stone installations where polymeric sands cannot reach.
Does not haze stones The Alliance Gator Dust Bond formula is specifically designed so it does not leave white residue or haze on the stone surface when applied correctly to completely dry stones.
Continues to harden over time Unlike polymeric sands that reach their final cure relatively quickly, Alliance Gator Dust Bond continues to strengthen and harden over time, getting more durable as it ages.
Firm yet flexible cure Sets very firm and locks the stones securely while retaining enough flexibility to expand and contract with seasonal freeze thaw cycles without cracking out of the joint.
Waterproof bag packaging Store bags lying flat with the front facing up. Sealed intact bags and intact pallets can be safely stored outdoors until needed.
Note: A leaf blower is required to remove surface excess after sweeping and before watering. Have one ready on the job site before you start. Also avoid excessive watering or flooding of the stone area during activation.
What Alliance Gator Dust Bond Polymeric Stone Dust Helps Prevent
A properly installed Gator Dust Bond joint is your best long term protection against the most common natural and wet cast stone maintenance problems. Here is what it keeps out:
Weeds growing through stone joints Polymer-locked joints leave no loose material for weed seeds to take root, making weed growth through the joints rare with a properly installed application.
Insect damage and ant tunneling Ants and insects cannot tunnel through a properly cured Gator Dust Bond joint, protecting the base material from destabilization over time.
Joint erosion from rain, wind, and freeze thaw cycles Regular stone dust washes out easily. Alliance Gator Dust Bond's polymer bond holds the jointing material firmly in the joint against rain, wind, and the expansion and contraction of freeze thaw cycles.
Stone shifting and movement Firmly locked joints keep natural and wet cast stones stable under foot traffic throughout the seasons, reducing stone shifting and the need for re-leveling.
Haze residue on stone faces When applied correctly to completely dry stones, the haze free formula does not leave white residue on the stone surface after application.
Note: Gator Dust Bond does not prevent moss, mold, or mildew. Those result from shade, moisture retention, and drainage conditions on site. All stone surfaces must have adequate drainage slope for Gator Dust Bond to perform at its best. Treat moss or mildew with a paver-safe cleaner and improve drainage to address underlying conditions.
Alliance Gator Dust Bond Polymeric Stone Dust Available Colors
Gator Dust Bond is available in two colors: Sahara Beige and Stone Grey. Note that the color names are different from our polymeric sand products. these are calibrated stone dust colors designed to complement natural and wet cast stone. What you see on a screen looks different on your actual stones in real outdoor light. We strongly recommend ordering physical color samples before purchasing full bags.
Not sure which color matches your stone?Order our sample pack with both colors shipped to you. Test them on your actual stones in real outdoor light before purchasing full bags. The right color choice makes a significant difference in the finished look of your project.
Alliance Gator Dust Bond coverage varies significantly because joint widths on natural and wet cast stone projects vary so widely. A project with tight 1/2 inch joints will use far fewer bags than one with wide 4 to 6 inch joints. Alliance Gator Dust Bond coverage is approximately up to 30 square feet per bag depending on joint width and depth. Always order 15 to 20 percent extra on natural stone projects where joint widths are irregular and hard to predict.
Approximate coverage per 50 lb bag. both colors
Sahara Beige, Stone Grey
Up to 30 ft²
Coverage depends heavily on joint width, joint depth, and stone size. Natural stone projects with variable joint widths are especially hard to estimate accurately. Always order 15 to 20 percent extra. Source: Alliance Gator official TDS. Always verify the latest TDS at AllianceGator.com before installation.
Critical conditions. do not install if any of these apply: temperature is below 59°F (15°C), rain is forecasted within the next 24 hours, or stone surfaces or joints are damp or wet in any way.
1
Prepare the base and install stones
Install stones on a traditional base system: a maximum of 1 inch (25 mm) of bedding sand on top of a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) of crushed stone compacted at 98 percent Proctor density. Adding a second 1 inch layer of loose sand on top of a Gator Base is also accepted. Make sure all stone surfaces and joints are completely dry before proceeding.
2
Apply Gator Dust Bond into the joints
For natural stone: use a hard bristle broom to sweep Gator Dust Bond into the full depth of the joints in multiple directions. For wet cast stone: use a scoop to carefully pour Gator Dust Bond directly into the full depth of the joints. Avoid getting product on the wet cast stone surface when possible. Do not mix with other materials in the joints.
3
Tamp with rubber mallet to settle joints
Hit each stone with a rubber mallet to make Alliance Gator Dust Bond settle firmly into the joints by removing air pockets. Repeat steps 2 and 3 at least two more times to ensure joints are fully packed and consolidated to the required depth.
4
Sweep off excess then use a leaf blower
Use a soft, fine bristle broom to sweep all excess Gator Dust Bond off the stone surfaces. Then use a leaf blower to remove all remaining residue from the stone faces before watering. This step is required and must be completed before water activation.
5
Activate with water. shower setting only
Set your hose nozzle to the shower setting. Water the entire installation gently and evenly. Do not over water or allow flooding. Avoid excessive watering of the stone area. The goal is to activate the polymer binders without washing product out of the joints.
Pool surrounds: a slope of 1/8 inch per linear foot away from the pool is mandatory before installing. Start watering at the lowest point and work upward.
6
Keep off surface for 24 hours
Minimize or avoid walking on the stones for 24 hours after installation. No rain can occur within 24 hours of activation. Gator Dust Bond will continue to harden and strengthen over time. the joints get more durable as they age.
Do not apply if any of these conditions exist
Temperature is below 59°F (15°C)
Rain is forecasted within the next 24 hours
Stone surfaces or joints are damp or wet in any way
Stones are installed over a concrete slab. Gator Dust Bond cannot be used on overlays
Project requires vehicular traffic. Gator Dust Bond is pedestrian use only
Joint width is under 1/2 inch or over 6 inches
Installation is on asphalt. do not sweep Gator Dust Bond over asphalt
Long Term Maintenance for Alliance Gator Dust Bond Stone Joints
Alliance Gator Dust Bond polymeric stone dust is lower maintenance than regular stone dust, but it is not completely maintenance free. Here is what to do to keep your stone joints in top condition.
Routine cleaning Apply Gator Shampoo or a stone-safe cleaner to the full surface including the joints. Rinse with a garden hose on the shower setting at standard residential water pressure, typically up to 80 psi. Avoid flooding the joint area and do not use excessive water pressure directly on the joints.
Haze on stones after installation Usually caused by applying on surfaces that were not completely dry, or from insufficient leaf blowing before watering. Treat with Gator Efflorescence Cleaner. Natural haze from installation also fades over time with sun and weather exposure.
Moss, mold, or mildew These are drainage and shade issues, not a product problem. Treat with a stone-safe cleaner. For long term prevention, improve drainage and reduce shade. All stone surfaces must maintain adequate drainage slope for the product to perform correctly.
Re-filling worn or damaged joints Remove all old jointing material completely before re applying. Do not apply new Alliance Gator Dust Bond on top of old jointing material. Stones must be fully dry and conditions must meet temperature and rain requirements. Then follow the standard installation steps from the beginning.
Storing leftover bags Alliance Gator Dust Bond comes in waterproof bags. Lay bags flat with the front facing up. Sealed intact bags and intact pallets can be safely stored outdoors until needed.

Great Product
Purchased this product to fill the gaps in my flag stone. I went with this product because it allows larger gaps between the flag stones. I follow the instructions on the back of the bag and it looks amazing. Just make sure you follow the steps and blow off the dust from any surfaces.

Don’t overpay
Product is great, but I learned later that I could buy the same thing locally at full retail for about half as much, and have it the same day.
