ROMEX ECOFINE is a ready mixed resin jointing sand. It is a professional paving joint mortar that installs as a simple DIY application. It is engineered for joint widths greater than 1/8" (3mm) on porcelain tile and natural stone, and greater than 1/4" (5mm) on concrete pavers, making it one of the most versatile jointing solutions we carry at Polymeric Sand Store.
Application could not be simpler. Empty the vacuum packed mortar onto a damp surface, apply water, and squeegee the product into the joints. Once ECOFINE reacts with the air it hardens into a firm, durable joint that prevents ants and weeds, eliminating the need for replacement or touchups.
What sets ECOFINE apart is that it is resin film free and highly water permeable (175 in/h), so the surface drains freely and stays free of the milky haze film that some jointing products leave behind. It is also pool chemical tested, which makes it an excellent choice around pool decks.

Each bucket of ROMEX ECOFINE holds 27.5 lbs (12.5 kg). Coverage depends heavily on your stone size and joint depth. Larger stones with narrow joints stretch a bucket much further than small stones with deep joints. The table below shows consumption in lbs per 1 m² (10.76 sq ft), based on a joint depth of 30 mm (1¼").

Figures are per 10.76 sq ft at a 1¼" joint depth. To estimate buckets, divide your total joint volume by what one 27.5 lb bucket covers at your stone size and joint width, then add a 10 to 15% buffer. For polygonal or irregular flagstone, ROMEX recommends ROMPOX D1.
Make sure the base is stable, free draining, and fully compacted with a slope of at least 2%, and compact the pavers per CMHA guidelines. Avoid permanently wet areas. For a ROMEX System Guarantee, a ROMEX Trass bed base is recommended. ECOFINE is rated for pedestrian use only.
Clean the joints to a depth of at least 75%, and ideally 100%, of the stone height. For slabs under 1¼" (30 mm), use bonded construction and fill the joints entirely. Clean off all dirt and mask adjacent surfaces.
Thoroughly wet the surface with a hose before you start, especially porous surfaces or in higher temperatures. Avoid leaving standing water in fresh joints.
Open the bucket and immediately pour the mortar over the damp surface in sections. Work it into the joints with a gentle spray of water and a squeegee until completely filled, watering continuously with a steady stream. No compacting is needed.
Once the surface has partially dried, gently sweep with a coconut hair or soft broom until free of all residue. Sweep diagonally to the joint and make sure joint material sits at or below the surface. Discard swept material.
No rain protection is needed for light drizzle. Protect the freshly jointed surface from continuous or heavy rain for approximately 24 hours. Full cure is reached in about 24 hours.
- ECOFINE may have a natural odour at first, which dissipates quickly. Work in well ventilated outdoor areas.
- Create a small sample area first if you are unsure of the result.
- Clean all tools with water immediately after jointing.
- Wear protective gloves, rubber boots, safety goggles, and clothing while working.
- Regularly remove moss, leaves, and weeds that hold moisture on the jointed surface.
- Clean the joints once or twice a year to keep water draining freely.
- Due to the natural raw materials, expect natural color variation.
