The Pail Is The Point
This is calcium chloride pellet ice melt, the fastest and coldest working chemistry available, packaged in a resealable pail instead of a paper bag. A bag left in the garage absorbs moisture and turns into a brick by February. A sealed pail does not, which is why the pail sizes exist even though they cost more per pound.

Choosing A Size

The small pails are for keeping by a door for steps and thresholds. The larger ones are for a driveway or a run of sidewalk. Buying the size that matches how you actually use it beats buying the cheapest per pound and letting half of it cake up.
