Techniseal CB+ Color Boost is a water based, penetrating sealer that brings out the original color of pavers and natural stone without leaving a film on the surface. That combination is unusual. Most color enhancing sealers build a coat on top, while CB+ soaks in, and Techniseal calls it ideal for slip prone surfaces as a result. It is aimed at homeowners and contractors who want richer color on a pool deck, a set of steps or a stone patio, but not shine.
This guide covers what CB+ is, where Techniseal approves it, where it is the wrong product, the application sequence, and how to think about coverage on a penetrating sealer. It uses the Techniseal product information on our CB+ product page, and it points you to the Techniseal technical data sheet for the figures that page does not list, such as temperatures and cure times.
Quick answer
- CB+ is a water based, penetrating color enhancing sealer with a matte (matt) finish and no surface film, sold in 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes.
- Techniseal approves it on natural stone, concrete pavers and interlocking pavers, and calls it ideal for slip prone surfaces. Not for driveways or other vehicular areas.
- It does not stabilize joint sand, and it changes the look of the surface. Test a small area first.
- Coverage depends on how porous the surface is. Check the Techniseal data sheet for coverage, temperatures and cure time.
What Techniseal CB+ Color Boost Sealer is
Techniseal CB+ Color Boost Paver Sealer is described as a penetrating color enhancing paver sealer on a newly improved formula. Here is how it compares with other sealers in the Techniseal line, based on our product pages:
| Feature | Techniseal CB+ | Techniseal JS (satin) |
|---|---|---|
| How it protects | Penetrates, no surface film | Forms a satin film |
| Look | Boosts the original color, matte finish | Satin |
| Joint sand stabilizing | No | Yes, on concrete pavers |
| Approved surfaces | Natural stone, concrete pavers, interlocking pavers | Concrete pavers and interlocking pavers |
Because there is no coating on top, the product page notes there is nothing to gloss up, peel or wear through in the traffic lanes. CB+ also works as a stain guard: once cured, contaminants are repelled rather than absorbed.

Where to use it (and where not to)
CB+ suits jobs where the color needs lifting but a glossy film would be wrong or unsafe. Our product page lists these as good fits:
- Pool decks and pool surrounds that need richer color
- Steps, stairs and sloped patios
- Natural stone patios and walkways
- Faded concrete pavers that need their color brought back
And these are the limits, straight from the manufacturer information on the product page:
- It changes the appearance. CB+ is a color enhancer. If you want no change in look, use Techniseal NS or Techniseal iN instead.
- It does not stabilize joints. NS, JS and JSW are the joint stabilizing products in the Techniseal line.
- Not for driveways, wet cast or poured concrete. Techniseal does not recommend CB+ for driveways, parking lots or any other vehicular use, and says not to apply it to wet cast or clay pavers, stamped or poured concrete.
- Not over a dirty or damp surface. Penetrating sealers lock in whatever is present.
- Temperature and cure. Read the current Techniseal technical data sheet for temperature and cure requirements before you start.

How to use Techniseal CB+
Follow the official Techniseal instructions on the data sheet. This is the sequence given on our product page:
- Clean and dry. Clean the surface thoroughly and let it dry completely. Our product page pairs CB+ with Techniseal HD Paver Prep to clean and prep the surface first. See how to clean pavers before sealing for the full prep sequence.
- Test a small discrete area. The color boost varies by paver and by stone, so approve the result before you go further. An 8 oz CB+ sealer sample is a simple way to do this before buying a full gallon.
- Apply evenly. Apply per the technical data sheet, letting the sealer penetrate rather than building a coat.
- Remove the excess. Take off any sealer that has not absorbed within the window Techniseal specifies. The product page notes that leaving unabsorbed excess to dry on the surface is the most common way a penetrating sealer ends up looking patchy.
- Respect the cure time. Keep traffic off until the cure time on the data sheet has passed.
For general technique, see our step by step guide to sealing pavers and how long to wait before using your patio after sealing. The dry and cure times for CB+ itself are on the Techniseal data sheet.
How much Techniseal CB+ you need
Our product page does not list a coverage figure, and for good reason: coverage on a penetrating sealer is governed by how porous the surface is, because the product soaks in. Open natural stone will take considerably more than a dense concrete paver. Check the coverage range on the Techniseal data sheet in our TDS and SDS library, then run your square footage through the paver sealer coverage calculator.
A test area on your own material is the best estimate you can get. You can also call us with the paver or stone type and we will help you work it out. CB+ comes in 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes. We ship same day from our New Jersey warehouse on weekday orders placed before 2 PM Eastern. Local? Call (856) 418-4895 first and pick up at our Williamstown, NJ warehouse (1287 Glassboro Road). It is a warehouse, not a walk in store. See local pickup.
Safety and storage
CB+ is water based, which our product page notes means lower odor and simpler cleanup than a solvent sealer. Techniseal publishes a safety data sheet for CB+; read it, along with the label, for protective equipment and storage instructions before you open the can. Both documents are in our TDS and SDS library.
Frequently asked questions
Will Techniseal CB+ make my pavers slippery?
Techniseal describes the penetrating formula as ideal for slip prone surfaces, because it does not leave a film on top.
How much will CB+ change the color?
It boosts the original color rather than adding one, and the degree depends on the paver or stone. Always test a small area first.
Can I use CB+ on natural stone?
Yes. Techniseal lists natural stone, concrete pavers and interlocking pavers.
Does CB+ stabilize joint sand?
No. For joint stabilizing, look at Techniseal NS, JS or JSW.
How is CB+ different from Techniseal JS?
JS forms a satin film and stabilizes joints on concrete pavers. CB+ penetrates with no film, works on natural stone and suits slip prone areas, but it does not stabilize joints.
