How to Install Gator Nitro X

The short version. Always follow the Alliance data sheet.

  1. Step 1: Wet the area - Alliance Gator Nitro X Fine Joint Sand for Pavers and Porcelain

    To be jointed. More water if the surface is dry or hot, a dry surface is what causes staining.

  2. Step 2: Spread one third - Alliance Gator Nitro X Fine Joint Sand for Pavers and Porcelain

    Of the pail over the surface, soak it thoroughly and work it with a squeegee or hard-bristle broom, pushing diagonally into the joints.

  3. Step 3: Fill and rinse - Alliance Gator Nitro X Fine Joint Sand for Pavers and Porcelain

    Fill and rinse

    Bring the joints to 1/8 in below the top surface or chamfer, shower the excess off, and repeat until the whole area is done.

Where Gator Nitro X Works

Alliance rates Nitro X for drainage-base installations on:

  • Outdoor porcelain tiles, pavers and slabs
  • Concrete pavers and concrete slabs
  • Natural stone and wet cast stone
  • Patios, pool areas and walkways
  • Residential driveways with light vehicular use
  • Traditional drainage, permeable and hybrid bases

Where Gator Nitro X Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Drainage base only. Alliance states Nitro can only be used on a drainage base application. Do not apply on aggregates with large voids or the product migrates.

The surface must be pre-wet and stay wet throughout the install or staining can occur.

Pool coping blocks require mortar. Avoid power washing for at least 28 days.

Any movement of the paving voids the warranty, before or after installation. On Gator Base the rating is pedestrian only.

Alliance requires a test area of roughly 4 sq ft first. Skip it and the warranty applies only to that 4 sq ft.

On permeable and hybrid bases, Nitro X may only be installed 90 minutes after Gator XTreme Edge is applied.

The manufacturer rates this product for joints up to 2". Measure the widest joint on the job, not the average; if it is wider than that, pick a sand rated for wider joints or use the project finder.
How many bags do I need?
Coverage depends on paver size, joint width and joint depth, so a bag count from a square-foot number alone can be off by half. The coverage calculator uses this product's own data sheet figures: enter your area, paver size and joint width and it gives you the bag count.
Which colors does it come in?
