How to Install Gator Nitro Joint Sand

    To be jointed. Use more water if the surface is dry or hot, because a dry surface is what causes staining.

  2. Step 2: Spread and soak - Alliance Gator Nitro Joint Sand for Pavers, Natural Stone and Porcelain Tile

    Tip the material out, soak it thoroughly with water and work it with a squeegee or hard-bristle broom, pushing diagonally across the pavers into the joints.

  3. Step 3: Fill and rinse - Alliance Gator Nitro Joint Sand for Pavers, Natural Stone and Porcelain Tile

    Bring the joints to 1/8 in below the top surface or chamfer, then shower the excess off. Repeat section by section until the whole area is done.

Where Gator Nitro Joint Sand Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Drainage base only. Alliance states Nitro can only be used on a drainage base application. Do not apply on aggregates with large voids or the product migrates.

The surface must be pre-wet and stay wet throughout the install or staining can occur.

Pool coping blocks require mortar. Avoid power washing for at least 28 days.

Any movement of the paving voids the warranty, before or after installation. On Gator Base the rating is pedestrian only.

Alliance requires a test area of roughly 4 sq ft first. Skip it and the warranty applies only to that 4 sq ft.

How to Install Gator Nitro Joint Sand

The full step by step guide is in the official documentation below. Here is the shape of the job:

  1. Wet the area to be jointed. Use more water if the surface is dry or hot, because a dry surface is what causes staining.

Working time is about 45 minutes. Traffic after roughly 18 hours in dry conditions above 75 F, full strength at 28 days.

How wide can the joints be?
The manufacturer rates this product for joints up to 2". Measure the widest joint on the job, not the average; if it is wider than that, pick a sand rated for wider joints or use the project finder.
How many bags do I need?
Coverage depends on paver size, joint width and joint depth, so a bag count from a square-foot number alone can be off by half. The coverage calculator uses this product's own data sheet figures: enter your area, paver size and joint width and it gives you the bag count.
Which colors does it come in?
