About this item
- It carries the NextGel technology. That is the same core technology behind Techniseal flagship HP NextGel, and it is what gives SmartSand its cleaner application and faster wetting compared with conventional jointing sand.
- Techniseal calls it the cost-effective alternative. Their own literature recommends SmartSand for everyday paver installations that are not exposed to substantial vehicular circulation, and HP NextGel for everything heavier.
- Faster wetting means less standing around. On a residential patio, water activation is where the schedule slips. Faster wetting shortens that step.
- Built specifically for interlocking pavers. Techniseal lists interlocking pavers, concrete pavers, clay pavers, and wet cast pavers as approved surfaces.
- 15 year limited warranty on a product priced for volume residential work.
- Cleaner application means fewer callbacks. A cleaner install is a cleaner looking patio at handover, which is the part the homeowner actually judges.

- Residential paver patios

- Larger residential jobs where the budget matters
Where SmartSand Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)
Not rated for heavy vehicular traffic. Techniseal lists SmartSand for pedestrian and light vehicular only. For commercial entries, industrial installs, or anything carrying real weight, step up to HP NextGel.
Not rated for high humidity areas. Techniseal lists the installation area as normal. Pool decks and constantly damp surfaces call for HP NextGel.
Not rated for sloped surfaces. Techniseal lists flat only. On a graded patio or a sloped driveway, use HP NextGel.
Not for joints wider than 1 inch, and not listed for natural stone or porcelain tile. Those need a different product in the line.
