How to Install Gator Super Sand G2

The short version. Always follow the Alliance data sheet.

  1. Step 1: Spread - Alliance Gator Super Sand G2 Polymeric Sand for Paver Joints up to 2"

    With a hard-bristle broom, fill the joints and leave a layer on the surface.

  2. Step 2: Vibrate - Alliance Gator Super Sand G2 Polymeric Sand for Paver Joints up to 2"

    With a plate compactor and rubber pad. Roughly 30 to 50 percent of the sand drops on the first compaction: Alliance says never skip this step. Top up and repeat.

Where Gator Super Sand G2 Works

Alliance recommends Super Sand G2 for traditional-base work, residential and commercial:

Where Gator Super Sand G2 Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Traditional base only. Alliance states never to use Super Sand G2 where pavers are installed over a concrete slab. Use Gator Maxx G2 or Gator Maxx Sand for an overlay.

Do not apply if the paver surface or the joints are damp or wet. Everything must be 100 percent dry.

Do not sweep it over asphalt. Do not apply on aggregates with large voids.

Pavers must be fully interlocked before you sand. Pool coping units must be mortared, not sanded.

Joints must be filled to at least 1/8 in below the paver surface or chamfer, and cured joints should never sit in direct contact with foot traffic or tires.

How wide can the joints be?
The manufacturer rates this product for joints up to 2". Measure the widest joint on the job, not the average; if it is wider than that, pick a sand rated for wider joints or use the project finder.
How many bags do I need?
Coverage depends on paver size, joint width and joint depth, so a bag count from a square-foot number alone can be off by half. The coverage calculator uses this product's own data sheet figures: enter your area, paver size and joint width and it gives you the bag count.
Which colors does it come in?
2 options: Slate Gray, Beige. Screens shift color, so check a color sample against your own pavers before ordering full bags if the shade matters.
