Smooth Water Worn Stone in Natural Earth Tones
Pavestone River Pebbles are smooth, water worn stones in natural earth tones. Pavestone recommends them for dry creek beds, landscape borders and erosion control. They are the product to reach for when you want stone that looks like it belongs in a watercourse rather than like it came out of a crusher.

What Pavestone Recommends It For

  • Dry creek beds and swales, where the rounded shape reads as a natural watercourse.
  • Landscape borders, as a permanent edge that never needs topping up.
  • Erosion control, slowing and spreading water rather than letting it channel.
  • Downspout outfalls, to break the fall of water before it digs a hole.

On the Phrase Water Washed

Pavestone describes these as water washed stones, and it is worth being precise about what that means. It describes how the stones were shaped, tumbled smooth in a river over a very long time. It is not a processing claim, and it does not mean the product has been washed and screened to a drainage specification. No product in this range carries a washed or graded designation.

Rounded Stone Is Not a Load Bearing Aggregate

Rounded stone has point contact between pieces, so it rolls and re-packs under load rather than interlocking the way crushed angular stone does. That is fine for a bed, a creek bed or a splash area, and it is the wrong choice under a path, a drive or anything bearing weight. It is also not a specified drainage aggregate, so do not build a structural French drain or a foundation perimeter drain from it. Call us and we will point you at the right material.

River Pebbles or Pea Pebbles

Both are rounded and natural. The difference is size and therefore job. Pea Pebbles are the smaller stone, which is what makes them comfortable underfoot and effective as a mulch. River Pebbles are the larger, more visible stone, which is what makes them read properly in a creek bed and stay put where water moves. Pavestone does not publish a size for either, so if the distinction matters to your design, order a bag of each before committing to a pallet.

Where These Facts Come From

Pavestone is a brand of The Quikrete Companies, and unlike Quikrete’s cement products it publishes no data sheet for bagged landscape stone. Its own catalogue records carry the product description and nothing else: no weight, no stone size, no coverage. So this page states what Pavestone itself says, and where a figure comes from retailer data instead we label it as such rather than presenting it as a manufacturer specification. No product in this range carries a washed, graded or ASTM claim from Pavestone.
