How Many Bags You Need
Oldcastle prints the coverage on the bag: a half cubic foot bag covers approximately 4 to 6 square feet at 1 inch deep, or about 3 square feet at 2 inches. Their own rule of thumb is to multiply your square footage by 0.33 for a 2 inch layer, or by 0.5 for a 3 inch layer.

Read This Before You Buy It as Mulch
The bag prints perfect mulch on it. At one to two inches across, it is not one. Colorado State University Extension puts the functional limit for a stone mulch at around half an inch, and notes that larger stone can actually inhibit plant growth while providing landscape interest. Egg Rock is a feature stone. Use it because you want to see the stones, not because you want to suppress weeds, and expect leaf litter and soil to work down into the gaps over the years.
Not a Load Bearing or Drainage Aggregate
Rounded stone does not interlock, so it shifts under foot and vehicle traffic. And while Oldcastle lists drainage areas among the uses, this product carries no washed designation, no gradation and no ASTM size number, so it should not be specified for a structural French drain or a foundation drain. For a decorative dry well or a splash area it is fine.
