DAP Ready-To-Use Concrete Patch is a latex emulsion compound with fibre reinforcement, supplied ready to use in a one gallon tub. It fills holes, cracks, chips and spalls in concrete and masonry, rejoins broken pieces, and repoints deteriorated mortar joints. It dries to a concrete gray.

What It Is For

  • Filling holes, cracks, dents and chips in concrete and masonry.
  • Repairing breaks and spalls where a surface has flaked or broken away.
  • Rejoining broken pieces of concrete or brick.
  • Tuck pointing masonry and brickwork with deteriorated joints.
  • Feather edging, since it can be smoothed out to nothing at the edge.

The Limitation Printed in Capitals

DAP states it in capital letters, so we will repeat it plainly: do not use this as a skim coat. It is a patching compound for discrete repairs, not a resurfacer for spreading thinly across a whole slab. If you want to renew a worn surface over a large area, a cement based resurfacer is the product for that job and we stock one. Using a patch compound as a skim coat is how people end up with a floor that debonds in sheets.

Where DAP Says Not to Use It

  • Not as a skim coat. Discrete repairs only.
  • Not for repairs deeper than 1 inch.
  • Not on surfaces taking vehicle traffic.
  • Not where there is prolonged water exposure or full submersion. That rules out pool and pond repairs.

Getting a Repair That Lasts

  • Clean the repair out. Loose material left in the hole is what the patch will fail against.
  • Do not thin it. It is formulated ready to use and thinning weakens it.
  • For anything deeper than half an inch, build up in quarter inch layers and let each dry.
  • Allow overnight drying for surface patching, and longer for deep fills.
  • Work between 50 F and 90 F. Outside that range the latex will not form a proper film.
