Why Contractors Ask for Gator XTurf Infill Sand Beige by Name
If you do not need a coated, color-matched grain, natural sand does the same structural job for less. It weighs the turf down, holds the blades upright and drains, which is most of what infill is for.
- Primary first-layer infill. Alliance: "serves as the primary infill ingredient for the first layer. Its beige color makes it a natural choice."
- The cost-effective option against the coated Gator Green, at the same application rate.
- Finer 20/40 mesh for tighter packing between blades.
- Ideal gradation for drainage and it keeps the turf cooler.
- Published putting green rate of 0.5 to 1.5 lb per sq ft for pile under 1 in β the only infill Alliance gives a separate figure for.
- Stops wrinkles and ripples and protects the turf backing.
- Natural product, safe for pets.

Where Gator XTurf Infill Sand Beige Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)
Never use a metal leaf rake β it damages the turf blades.
Do not broom until the Gator XP glue has set for 3 to 4 hours, or you will pull the seams apart.

How to Install Artificial Turf Infill
The full step by step guide is in the official documentation below. Here is the shape of the job:
- Spread in thin layers with an adjustable-rate drop spreader, walking straight lines at a consistent speed. Use a shovel for edges and corners.
- Broom it in with a stiff bristle broom, turf rake or power broom. Firm pressure, walking backwards, overlapping rows, north-south then east-west, until no sand is visible and the blades stand upright.
- Leaf-blow the residual sand and cut blades off the surface.
- Mist lightly with water to kill the static and settle the infill.
Beige or Green: Does the Coating Matter?
Both are primary infills at the same 1.5 to 3 lb per sq ft. The differences are real but narrow.
- Beige β natural semi-angular sand, 20/40 mesh, cost effective, and the only one with a published putting green rate.
- Green β round coated quartz, 12/20 mesh, UV and colorfastness tested to ASTM G155, mildew resistant, blends with all turf colors.
- Where it shows β on thin or low-pile turf you can sometimes see infill between blades. Coated green hides better there.
- Where it does not β on dense 1.5 to 2 in pile, properly broomed in, neither is visible and Beige saves money.
Quick Answers
How much do I need?
1.5 to 3 lb per sq ft on landscape turf, so 16.7 to 33.3 sq ft per 50 lb bag. On a putting green under 1 in pile it drops to 0.5 to 1.5 lb per sq ft.
Is this a primary infill?
Yes, it is the first layer. Zeo-White goes on top if you want odor control.
Why is it cheaper than the Green?
It is natural uncoated sand rather than coated quartz, and it has no UV or colorfastness testing published.
Can I use it on a putting green?
Yes, and it is the one Alliance publishes a putting green rate for.
Is it safe for pets?
Yes. For pet areas Alliance recommends Zeo-White on top for ammonia absorption.
What mesh size is it?
20/40, finer than the 12/20 Gator Green.
