Why Contractors Ask for Gator Block Bond XP by Name

Construction adhesive that grabs instantly sounds good until a cap sits crooked and there is nothing you can do about it. Block Bond XP gives you half an hour to get it right, then holds at 1,000 psi.

  • 850 psi at 24 hours, 1,000 psi at 7 days concrete to concrete. Alliance rates it up to 3x conventional adhesives.
  • Reposition for up to 30 minutes, with working time up to an hour.
  • Works above 32 F, on dry or damp surfaces.
  • Non-shrinking. Does not crack or lose bond.
  • Waterproof, low odor and VOC compliant.
  • Rated for fire pits up to 400 F and for bonding artificial turf over seam tape.
  • Exceeds ASTM D3498 and ASTM C557.

Where Gator Block Bond XP Works

Alliance rates Gator Block Bond XP for:

  • Wall caps and step treads
  • Pool coping
  • Retaining wall blocks and overlays
  • Concrete pavers, bricks and natural stone
  • Outdoor porcelain tiles
  • Fire pits up to 400 F
  • Artificial turf seams, in a serpentine bead over Gator XTurf Seam Tape

Where Gator Block Bond XP Should NOT Be Used (Straight From the Manufacturer)

Not for continuous submersion.

Do not use in the rain or onto standing water. It is moisture cured, so water shortens the open time rather than helping.

Wear gloves. Cured polyurethane cannot be removed from skin or tools except mechanically.

Surfaces must be clean and free of foreign matter. Test the application first if adhesion to a substrate is in any doubt.

How to Use Gator Block Bond XP

The full step by step guide is in the official documentation below. Here is the shape of the job:

  1. Clean the bonding surfaces. Both faces, free of dust and debris.
  2. Cut the spout and puncture the cartridge seal with a nail.
  3. Apply with a caulking gun in a bead, or a serpentine pattern over Gator XTurf Seam Tape for artificial turf.
  4. Join with a twisting motion and press firmly. You have up to 30 minutes to reposition.

Clean wet adhesive off immediately with mineral solvent. Once cured it only comes off mechanically.

Single Cartridge or Case of 12?

Both sizes come either way, and the case is how contractors buy it.

  • 10 oz single — a run of caps on a small wall, roughly 30 linear ft of bead.
  • 28 oz single — a larger job, roughly 84 linear ft, and fewer cartridge changes.
  • Case of 12 — the working stock for a crew, in either size.
  • Shelf life is 1 year properly stored, so buy a case only if you will get through it.

Quick Answers

How long do I have to reposition a cap?
Up to 30 minutes, with total working time of about an hour.

How strong is it?
850 psi concrete to concrete at 24 hours, and 1,000 psi at 7 days. Alliance rates it up to three times conventional construction adhesive.

Can I use it in the cold?
Yes, above 32 F.

Can I use it on a wet surface?
Damp is fine, but not in the rain and not onto standing water. It cures with moisture, so excess water shortens the open time.

Can I use it on a fire pit?
Yes, rated for service up to 400 F.

Does it work for artificial turf seams?
Yes, in a serpentine bead over Gator XTurf Seam Tape. That is Alliance's specified method.

How much does one cartridge cover?
A 10 oz gives 28 to 32 linear ft of 1/4 in bead, a 28 oz gives 79 to 90 ft.

How do I clean it up?
Mineral solvent while it is still wet. Cured adhesive has to be removed mechanically.
